Home Buying Is Easier When You Know Your Remodeling Options

While I am not a professional contractor, I have a good friend who is. He often calls and tells me about his days and I have learned a lot about home renovations and remodeling options just listening to his stories. Knowing my home remodeling options greatly aided the shopping experience when I was ready to purchase my first home. I wanted to live in a location close to my family, and there were limited homes on the market in the area. However, due to knowing what changes could be made to an existing home, I was able to find a good house that I knew I could make great with just a few changes after I bought it. I was recently inspired to create a blog to share what I have learned about home renovations with anyone who would like to read it!

Four Choices For Replacing The Asphalt Shingles On Your Home

Asphalt shingles can be a decent roofing material to install on your home, but it will eventually need repairs or need to be replaced. The most affordable material to use when replacing asphalt shingles would be single tab asphalt shingles. There are other options when you replace the roof, such as architectural shingles, synthetic roofing materials and other products that look better and will last longer. If you need to have the roofing on your home replaced or repaired, here are four great choices that you may want to use on your home:

1. Architectural Asphalt Shingles With Longer Life

If you want to have asphalt shingles installed on your home, one good option you have is to use architectural or 3D shingles. These are shingles that have a three dimensional design on the tabs of the shingle. These cost a little more than single tab shingles, but they are good for things like hiding imperfections on the roof. The architectural shingles will usually have a longer guarantee too, and they are a little more durable and they will last longer than single tab shingles.

2. Synthetic Slate Shingles For A Different Look

Slate is a material that can look great on a roof, but real slate is not ideal for asphalt shingle replacement. Real slate will require a structure to support the load of the roof, installing the material and it costs more. Synthetic slate is a great option if you want to have the look of slate without the extra cost and work to install it. It is a synthetic roofing material that can be used to replace your old asphalt shingles, and it will last much longer than asphalt roofing.

3. Cedar Shakes For A Green Wood Roofing

If you want to have a roof that is made of green materials, one of the best choices is cedar because it comes from a renewable resource. It can also be used to replace old asphalt shingles, and this can be done with little labor. You will just need to have the old asphalt shingles torn off and replaced with cedar shakes. You also have a choice of different sizes and styles.

4. Metal Roofing To Install Over Old Asphalt Shingles

Metal roofing can also be used to replace the asphalt shingles on your home. It has the benefit of being a very energy efficient roofing material that will outlast many of the other roofing materials that are available today. If you want to have a roofing material that will last for decades and not years, metal roofing is a great choice. It is also comparable in price to materials like 3D shingles, synthetic slate and cedar.

These are some of the options that you have for replacing asphalt shingles on your home. If your roof only has small damage, you may want to contact a roof repair service to repair the damage or replace the roof with some of the materials above. Talk to a company like HomeTowne Roofing about your options.
