Home Buying Is Easier When You Know Your Remodeling Options

While I am not a professional contractor, I have a good friend who is. He often calls and tells me about his days and I have learned a lot about home renovations and remodeling options just listening to his stories. Knowing my home remodeling options greatly aided the shopping experience when I was ready to purchase my first home. I wanted to live in a location close to my family, and there were limited homes on the market in the area. However, due to knowing what changes could be made to an existing home, I was able to find a good house that I knew I could make great with just a few changes after I bought it. I was recently inspired to create a blog to share what I have learned about home renovations with anyone who would like to read it!

Security Screen Doors: An Introduction for Curious Homeowners

If you are like most homeowners, when you think of a screen door for your home, you envision a basic door frame with a mesh screen designed to allow visibility and airflow. However, there is a different type of screen door that provides far more than just these accommodating features. Security screen doors offer your home an added layer of security, though this is an idea that most homeowners are completely unfamiliar with. To better understand whether a security screen door is a good choice for your home, here is a quick look at a few of the most common questions and answers about them.

What exactly is a security screen door?

A security screen door is essentially the same idea as a screen door but in a more enhanced form. For example, you can obtain a screen door that looks much like any other screen door, but the mesh in the screen will be far more durable and heavy-duty and possibly made of extruded aluminum or even steel. This heavy-duty screen is designed to be resilient to impact, which makes it an ideal layer of protection if you live in an area prone to hurricanes where flying debris could be a problem. The security screen door will also have more enhanced locking mechanisms, such as double-bored locks or even bolt locks.

What are the advantages of a security screen door?

Installing a security screen door will provide your home and its residents with several advantages immediately after installation. A few of the most noteworthy advantages include:

  • the ability to leave your front door open for ventilation reasons
  • an added layer of security against intruders
  • an added level of protection against flying debris
  • a protective cover for your expensive front door

How much does it cost to have a security screen door installed?

The amount you will have to pay to have your door installed will have a variety of factors involved, including whether or not a frame must be created for the door to be mounted on or whether the door is larger in stature than usual. However, most contractors will not charge you much of a different price to have a security screen door installed rather than a traditional door. In general, the average consensus price to have a screen door installed is $175. Even on the high end, you should be paying only around $225 to have the door installed unless extensive prep work is involved.
